US-based carrier Trailer Bridge has inked a 10-year stevedoring and software deal with Ports America for Jones Act cargo at the Port of Jacksonville.

The two companies said Monday the agreement will support Trailer Bridge’s barge service to Puerto Rico from Jacksonville’s Blount Island terminal. The deal also includes two options for five-year extensions. SSA Marine, which operates the Blount Island terminal, had previously handled Trailer Bridge’s stevedoring there.

In addition to handling cargo, Ports America will implement its terminal visibility platform Dockworks, which will be available to Trailer Bridge customers in 2027. The software provides cargo availability information, vessel schedules and other shipper functions.

Ports America Vice President David Eckles said in a statement the rollout of Dockworks will “enhance how cargo moves through the Jacksonville terminal.”

Trailer Bridge said in the statement the agreement with Ports America is part of a strategy to enhance its Jones Act service to Puerto Rico, which includes containers, autos and vehicles, breakbulk and other cargo. The company said it has spent $9 million in dry dock services for its roll-on/roll-off vessels as part of the service enhancement.
